LAST DAY OF SCHOOL - CARNIVAL & CELEBRATION

Hello, Parents!

As you all know, the last day of the regular school year is this Friday, and Sunflower is celebrating the end of a momentous year with a series of carnival-like events for the whole family. There's a rundown for the day - by school - below. Be sure to check for specific info for your kiddo's class:

SPROUTS

9:30AM Sprouts parent volunteers meet at school to begin setting up games.

10:00AM SPROUTS CARNIVAL BEGINS - Each Sprout must have a parent or guardian in attendance. Kids perform a few musical selections followed by some age-appropriate games. Miss Julie has pulled together a fun array of small prizes!

11:00AM SPROUTS ARE DISMISSED / END OF SCHOOL DAY - Sprouts kids will be released to their parents, and school will be closed.

NOTES / WHAT TO BRING: A normal school-day-sized snack will be provided for the Sprouts and their parents. While this is not a potluck event, if you'd like to bring a supplemental goodie to share, you're certainly welcome to! (Note that we're a nut-free school).

SUNFLOWERS (Sam, Indima and Alyssa's classes)

11:00AM Sunflower parent volunteers arrive at Sunflower School to help Sara L transition games, drinks and supplies to Sacajawea. Set up Sunflower event at Sacajawea.

11:30AM SUNFLOWER CARNIVAL BEGINS AT SACAJAWEA PARK - Each Sunflower must have a parent or guardian in attendance. Kids perform a few musical selections, there will be age-appropriate games and prizes, along with face painting, balloons, etc. The children moving on to kindergarten next year will be acknowledged, and the students will present a class gift to their teachers.

NOTES / WHAT TO BRING: There's no seating at the park, so you might be more comfortable if you bring a blanket or folding chair. This is a potluck event, so please bring a dish to share. Plates, cups, utensils and drinks will be provided by the school.

12:30PM SUNFLOWERS ARE DISMISSED / END OF SCHOOL DAY - Sunflowers will be released to their parents, and school will be closed.

ELEMENTARY (All classes in the new church building)

12:30PM Elementary parent volunteers meet at Sacajawea to help Laura Q pack up games and supplies and transition to Willard Park.

1:00PM ELEMENTARY CARNIVAL BEGINS AT WILLARD PARK - Each Elementary student must have a parent or guardian in attendance. The students will perform a few musical selections they've been practicing, then ALL students will be presented with a Certificate of Accomplishment.* The students will present their teachers with a token of appreciation. More advanced carnival games and more family fun.

NOTES / WHAT TO BRING: There's no seating at the park, so you might be more comfortable if you bring a blanket or folding chair. This is a potluck event, so please bring a dish to share. Plates, cups, utensils and drinks will be provided by the school. Because 1pm is a little later than the kids are used to having lunch, rest assured that we'll be giving them a heartier snack than usual to keep everyone in a good mood 'til lunch.

2:00PM ELEMENTARY KIDS ARE DISMISSED / END OF SCHOOL DAY - Elementary kids will be released to their parents, and school will be closed.

*A Note on "Graduation" -
In the past, this event was billed as a "graduation," which wasn't quite meshing with the Montessori Method; since kids of various ages are grouped together in a single learning environment at Sunflower, it created confusion when one student would "graduate," and come right back to the same classroom as his friend who didn't. Kids who had worked hard all year weren't being acknowledged, and Katie and Correy thought it best to make this event a more global celebration of how hard everyone has worked over the past year, and how much everyone has learned. Rest assured, the teachers and staff at Sunflower are exceptionally proud of the kids who will be going to kindergarten next year, whether they be graduating from Sunflower or moving on to a different school.

Anything we missed? Any remaining questions? Let us know!

Thanks,
Brooke
