St Patrick's Day Recap & Photo Booth Info
Happy St Patrick's Day, and thanks to all who came to the party last night!
For those who missed it, there was a dance and drama event with Mr. Michael, a magnetic alphabet fishing game where kids could earn a prize for "catching" their name, a shamrock sticker craft, a demonstration by Farmer Max, and enough baked potatoes and corned beef to choke a goat.
The kids got to help Jeremy (who really missed his calling as a bingo caller) on the microphone - and some lucky souls won prizes at our bingo tournament.
As a side note, the new school building where we held the dinner portion of last night's festivities obviously used to be a church, and when Sunflower bought the building, it came with all the 8ft wooden pews, like the one in the photo below. Katie's been selling the pews to interested parties, so if you've ever thought about buying an old church pew for a home project (I bought one and turned it into an eat-in kitchen nook), let Katie know. She has a few more she'd like to sell before the new building is open for business.
The most fun (for me) was the silly photo booth, where the parents were often as silly as their kids. Okay, sillier.
All of the photos from the event have been posted to the school's Smugmug photo site. You can drag and drop your images (or right click + Save As, if you're a PC person) free of charge. I'd recommend clicking on them first to make them as high resolution as possible. If you're considering ordering prints, I'd urge you to do it directly from the Smugmug site - their quality is exceptional, and the school gets a percentage of your purchase. It's good karma. If you have any technical questions, give me a shout.
Thanks to everyone who came and made the event a success, and thanks to Sara Laney, Susan "Grandma Sue" Mason, Sue "The Other Grandma Sue" Johnson, Laura Churchman, Laura Thompson, and the Twite Family for their help setting up the event and cleaning up the aftermath. Couldn't have done it without you.

Heeeelp!
Hey, all:
Thanks to those who attended the Parents' Association meeting last Monday to help put the finishing touches on this Sunday's St. Patrick's Day party. There are still a few places where we could really use an extra set of hands. Please consider helping out for half an hour or so during any of the following time slots - a little effort can go a long way toward making this event a big success. Here's where we need help most on Sunday:
1) 4:00pm - 5:00pm: Need helpers to finish any decorating or set-up projects.
2) 7:00pm - 7:30pm: Need help with clean-up and returning classroom spaces to normal.
3) 6:45-7:00pm - Need a Bingo caller. If you have an elementary student, this is something you could do together!
4) 5:00-6:45pm: Need helpers to run the carnival-style games. Hand out bean bags to toss, and give our prizes.
5) 5:00 - 6:45pm: Need a buffet helper. We have a volunteer who'll be setting up and running the buffet, but it would be nice to have an extra person to refill condiment bowls, etc.
6) At your convenience: Donate a dessert for the dessert table.
7) At your convenience: Donate a beverage for the drinks table.
Can you help? If so, CLICK HERE AND E-MAIL US!
Other than that, I think we're all set for a great party. Mr. Michael will be singing! Coach Shane will be doing a movement activity! There will be games and food and dancing and music and bingo and prizes. Wear green! BYOB! Have fun!

ST PATRICK'S DAY PARTY
Hey, all!
Exciting things are coming up at Sunflower!
Every year, Sunflower throws a St. Patrick's Day party for the students and their families. Last year, we decided to make the party bigger and better (and spread out the crowd) by hosting activities in all of the 6th St Sunflower buildings. It turned the party into a fun scavenger hunt-type affair for the kids as they earned prizes in each building. It was also a great way for parents to visit all of the classroom spaces.
This year's party promises to be the biggest ever, because Sunflower has just purchased a new building that will soon become additional classroom space: the former Wesleyan Methodist Church on the other side of 6th and Hickory.
It was decided that Sunday night might be easiest on everyone - we don't have to compete with the real St Patrick's Day, and our volunteers will have more time to get the event set up.
Spread over the FOUR Sunflower buildings, we'll have musical performances by Mr. Michael, a dance floor for the kiddos, a craft room, a bingo tournament called by Grandma Midge, a photo booth, game stations where the kids can win prizes, and an all-you-can-eat Irish potato bar with dozens of toppings. Adults are $7, kids over the age of 1 are $3.
We'll be holding a Parents' Association meeting this Monday March 10th at 5:30PM to discuss party details and hopefully some volunteers will step forward to help with set-up, (wo)manning game booths, etc. If you'd like to volunteer at the event but can't attend the meeting, let us know.
Schedule and event map to follow, but in the meantime there are sign up sheets at all school entrances.
Questions? Leave 'em in the comments or e-mail us!
